I agree with you that the underlying issues are not impacted by the bailout. It’s too bad more people do not appreciate what they have, rather than always yearning to obtain more. It is a terribly irony that McCain accuses Obama of being a socialist, when it is the wealthy and well-connected who have made decisions that will likely impoverish many who had little say.
Another factor not often mentioned is that the current tax system encourages borrowing to an excessive degree. Interest paid (both for home & business loans) is tax deductible, whereas interest earned on savings is taxed. So you’re better off (tax wise) to buy now on credit than have cash and pay with it.
