Rode the Boise River Green Belt bike trail from start to finish this morning, 5-25-07. Round trip starting from Main St. in Boise, to end of trail to Garden City, and then back out to Lucky Peak dam is 39 miles. Change in elevation is ~ 300 ft the whole ride. Would recommend a hybrid or mt bike with front suspension rather than a road bike due to tree root humps in the asphalt and frost heaves (got to be a bit hard on the wrists). Overall rating of a 4.0 and recommended in pieces for beginner + cyclers. SE of Boise to the dam is the least scenic part of the ride, but I had to do it just to say I’d done it all. Accessing the bike path at the extreme ends is a bit difficult, but from downtown Boise is a snap.
Would be glad to include some pictures if interested.

Do you have any pictures from your journeys on the trail?
I personally don’t…

Jeff sent me a few photos — see above — thanks, Jeff!

I’ve run from Lucky Peak to downtown Boise and little farther north. But what happens to the path after Garden City…does it continue through Eagle, etc?
I would love to know if there is a path from Eagle to Boise… does anyone know of one?
Rebeccah and Mark – There is no bike path from Boise to Eagle. For that reason we are taking on Garden City. For details check out our website at http://www.idahocog.org

Well, technically there is no complete bike path from Boise to Eagle, but you can make your way from Eagle Road to Glenwood along a pathway next to the river if you know where you are going. Believe me, I just did it last weekend. After starting at the Garden Inn hotel on Eagle and following the path behind it and riding for a few miles on unpaved trail and getting lost in a few neighborhoods, we finally did make it to Glenwood. It was a conquest, but we made it! They should really make that trail a little more rider friendly. It was annoying.
I live in Garden City and have rode the greenbelt many times and it doesn’t end in Garden City. It keeps going into eagle and maybe farther, but most of the trail from Garden City to Eagle is not paved, but still quite accesible. It was a 12 mile ride from Garden City to Eagle one way and 24 miles down and back. The path is on the south side of the river I belive from Garden City to Eagle.
and you never have to go on state street
There is NO bike path from Boise to Eagle on the south side of the river. There are several no trespassing signs at the gravel pit. This is as far as you can go. There is a closed gate with a private property no trespassing sign. This means there is NO access to the highway through my pasture either.
I have not yet tried it yet but found reference to a bike path from Eagle to Glenwood at the following blog site.

clearly shows this is not part of the Boise Greenbelt. So does

What the first link shows is that if you are willing to go on dirt and surface roads you can make your way from an access entrance to the Boise Greenbelt and make your way to Eagle. You could also disobey the Riverside Village (NOT recommended) and peddle thru or CARRY, not push, your bicycle thru the pedestrian only section.
The people who are not following the rules will make it harder to ever get the rules changed. You annoy the residents and ruin it for the rest of us. People have made their own trails in other areas where the trail is not. That does NOT make them part of the trail system. If those dirt roads are NOT part of an official trail system then you are trespassing.

I just got a GPS logger and will do the entire PAVED Greenbelt plus surface street route once construction is complete. I will not trespass, nor violate Riverside Village’s pedestrian only section.
is there a bike trail / green belt from Glenwood to Veteran’s park? And if so, I live on the NORTH side of the river and was wondering where I could cross over from the SOUTH trail to the north side.
How do we get on the bike trail exactly, we will be passing thru in Aug and are excited for a new place to ride.
