I’ve just added some new Google Maps features to the site: physical terrain maps, an index/overview map in the lower right corner, Local Search (find restaurants, hotels, etc. nearby), and driving directions. I’ll be releasing a new version of the Routes WordPress Plugin later today so that anyone else using this plugin to make a web site can use the same features. Meanwhile, enjoy them on the site!

Like the site! I have used it to uncover trails and trail data that RTC’s TrailLink does not have (traillink.com). I survey for them on a volunteer basis.
If you want data on the John Wayne Trail, etc., you are welcome to my facility waypoints. I usually do my mapping on G. Earth and have lots of kml files you are welcome to use on your site. Also have assoted .gpx files.
The kmls are more inclusive. I develop one for the trail, print out GE maps of same and then go survey it – which may take a few visits, depending on time and weather.
Sounds good! The Routes plugin (the plugin behind the geographical information on this site, which I developed for WordPress) doesn’t currently import KML files, just GPX. But I’ve discovered http://www.gpsbabel.org (GPS Babel), and it can convert from one format to another, so I should be able to take a KML file, convert to GPX in GPS Babel, and upload to the site.
